The Dreadnaughts State Qualifiers traveled to East Kentwood on Saturday to compete in the Division 1 State Finals at East Kentwood High School to go up against the top athletes in the state of Michigan.

Gusty morning winds of up to 25 mph caused the Pole Vault to change runway directions resulting in the use of a single runway for both genders, and the Discus to have to change pit directions to try and make those events more competitively even and safe. The morning started off quite cold for both the Discus and the Girls 4x800m relay, but by the afternoon, the temperatures had warmed up, the wind had died down for the Girls Pole Vault.

The top placers for Dexter was in the Pole Vault where the duo of Raiden Kipfmiller and Debbie McCoy earned All-State Honors. Both of them vaulted personal bests, and came up big when it mattered. Kipfmiller finished in 3rd place vaulting a career best of 12’ 9”, and McCoy was 6th, adding 9” to her personal best clearing the bar at 12’ 3”.

The 4x800m Relay of Amelia Cribbins, Claire Steinbrecher, Lillian Mitchell, and Vivian Hoffman ran competitively and placed in 17th with a time of 9:40.91. Cameron Clark, the first boy from Dexter to qualify in the Discus in decades, threw 138’ 9” for 30th.

The team will celebrate the season at their team awards night on June 9th.
