Dexter Track & Field - Wrapping it up
Greetings, Athletes & Families!
Congrats to our State Meet athletes and way to represent Dexter well! The 4x800m girls (Amelia Cribbins, Claire Steinbrecher, Lilly Mitchell, & Vivian Hoffman) kicked off the day with a 17th place finish out of 27 teams! Cam Clark had a nice 3rd throw boosting him to a 30th place finish out of 42 throwers! Our Pole Vaulters (Raiden Kipfmiller & Debbie McCoy) were thrown off by a schedule change moving them to later in the day but that didn't matter as they crushed their event - both having PRs and finishing All-State with Debbie in 6th and Raiden in 3rd! Wow, what a day! Have a great week & Go Dreads!
Thank you to our family volunteers throughout the season. We couldn't put on the meets we do or have the team experiences we have without your support. We appreciate you beyond words! Thank you!
Physicals: Returning athletes, now that T&F is over, you might have a bit more time available. Consider setting up your physical appointment now for the next school year! Physicals after April 15th are good for next school year!
Intersquad: June 5th is slated for our intersquad event! There will be a couple of traditional T&F events but some non-traditional events as well. One last day on the track and in the field to send off this tremendously successful season! Keep an eye on your group chats for updates!
Awards Night: Save the date - June 9th from 6pm - ?? in the DHS CPA. Due to the size of our team and logistics that would be involved, this is not a banquet with food but strictly an Awards Ceremony. We look forward to celebrating with you all!
Dexter Track & Field -Week 12
While the vast majority of our team has arrived at the end of their competition season, we still have a few key events in store so your efforts are not over! Larry Steeb requires all hands on deck (including open spots for parent volunteers in the SUG!) and we are including a student-athlete work roster below. We also have the State Finals on 5/31, intersquad on 6/5, and Awards Night on 6/9! Let's finish strong and show the T&F community what it looks like to host a great meet on Tuesday!
Have a great week & Go Dreads!
Practice Plans: Athletes competing in Larry Steeb or at the State Finals should connect directly with event coaches for practice plans. Keep an eye on your group chats for updates. Everyone not competing can begin a period of rest before your next season begins but stay ready for the intersquad fun!
This invitational style meet has a competition roster set by minimum standards achieved. Attached is a roster for athlete workers - if your name is not on the list, we still need you so please show up!

Home Concessions & Meet Help: Thank you to all who have helped thus far in the season! Here are the sign-ups for the remaining home meets:
Dexter Track & Field - Week 8
We'd like to begin with a huge THANK YOU to our volunteers who worked in all areas during the track meet. Concessions were rocking, the finish line was hopping, and the field event areas were in peak performance. Thank you for helping us host an awesome and efficient meet in less than ideal conditions - it makes an impact! We are looking forward to another league meet this Tuesday at Skyline, check out details below. We have been trying to share a tidbit of information each week and this week's note is about attendance expectations. Have a great week & Go Dreads!
Practice and Meet Expectations:
We have been sharing with our athletes that Track & Field is a team varsity sport. It's unique in that there are individual events but in the end it totals up to a team score and experience. Some of the best moments come at the end of the meet when there is only one event left competing. At Chelsea, the energy was awesome as Dexter athletes lined the fence to watch the only remaining pole vaulter then moved over to the throws area to surround the shot put area and cheer on their teammates. This past Tuesday it was cheering on the 4x400m relay teams, running back and forth across the field to catch them twice on each lap. Not only is it fun to stay at meets until the end, it is an expectation as we are one team. This expectation exists for practices as well and we are holding to the standard which has resulted in athletes being sat out for meets thereby hurting the team. Thank you for your family support of these expectations - it matters more than you know.
Meet away @ Skyline w/Bedford:
Our next meet is this Tuesday at Skyline High School! This is a double-dual - the format being that we are actually head-to-head against Skyline while also going head-to-head against Bedford at the same time. Everything is competed together but Bedford is simply disregarded to figure out the score between Skyline and Dexter. The same goes for all three matchups - our results are discounted to figure out who wins between Skyline and Bedford. It's always fun to try and keep tabs on it! It's looking like a cold and windy day is in store so dress warm! Here is the tentative roster though it won't be finalized until Monday at practice so keep clicking for the most up-to-date info. This is a work in progress.
Thursday Practice:
We are hosting a Middle School Meet on Thursday! As a result, athletes will want to get to Al Ritt at 3:15p sharp for a 3:20p warm-up as we need to be off the track by 5pm. Practice will still finish at 5:30p and we hope to have as many High School athletes as possible to hang out and offer encouragement to our Middle Schoolers!
Friday Practice:
Friday is a 1/2 day for students but practice will need to remain at 3:30p due to coaching availability. Keep an eye on the group chats for potential plans to pass the time!
Home Concessions & Meet Help:
Thank you to everyone who signed up for a shift in the concession stand already! This is a huge help in the success of our T&F program...THANK YOU! Here are the sign-ups for the remaining three home meets:
Dexter Track & Field - Week 7
Knock on wood but the weather is looking up and we are hopeful that this past Tuesday will be the last obnoxiously cold meet of the season. Great job to gut it out and find the will to compete and spectate! We have a HUGE week this week with two meets, including April Showers on Saturday which is a big meet that serves both as a fundraiser for the program and an Early Qualifier meet for the State Finals (more information on this below in this week's tidbit)! All hands on deck to make April Showers a success! Have a great week & Go Dreads!
Early Qualification and State Finals Standards:
There is a new way to qualify for the State Finals this year through the early qualifier meets. In the past, you only had one opportunity to qualify which was at Regionals. The new system offers some grace to those that might have a bad day at Regionals by affording them opportunities throughout the season to qualify. The standards at these EQ meets are tighter and you can still qualify at Regionals by time and/or place. Click here for more information and to see the standards that are set to make it to the State Finals (btw, we are Division 1)!
Meet away @ Lincoln w/Saline:
Our next meet is this Tuesday at Lincoln High School! This is another double-dual. Here is the tentative roster though it won't be finalized until Monday at practice so keep clicking for the most up-to-date info. This is a work in progress.

April Showers:
Saturday is a big day for the program and a great opportunity to represent the Dexter Community! Thank you to all who have already signed up to work and thanks in advance to all who are about to! Here are a few key details:
**All Athletes are expected to be in attendance, whether competing, cheering, working, or all of the above. Even if you are not competing, you are key to making this event a success so we look forward to seeing you there.
**Parent/Athlete Concession Sign-up (All Spring Sports including Middle School Opportunities)
**Parent Event Help: April Showers April 26th
**Competition Roster (This is an Invitational with limited entry so not everyone will be competing)

Dexter Track & Field - Week 5
What a great Invitational Meet, albeit a bit cold and wet. We scored quite a few medals and brought home a 3rd place banner! Great efforts and achievements! Please take a moment to look below at the details under our upcoming meet against Pioneer - we are looking (i.e. begging) for some volunteer help to fill the gaps that include a couple of changes we've made to the meet structure so it will run as quickly as possible (two PV pits, only one LJ pit). No experience is necessary - we'll have you trained up and ready before the meet starts! Go Dreads!
Home Meet against Pioneer:
Our next meet is this Tuesday at Al Ritt! This is our first official SEC Meet and we look forward to hosting a great event! It's looking like a cold day is in store so dress warm! Here are a couple links for you:
-

Athlete and Fan Gear (order TODAY - LAST CALL):
Dexter Print and Embroidery has opened up a team store for the spring T&F season. The T&F Captains vetted the offerings and made sure these would satisfy the requirement to be "dripped out"! Check out this link for more: https://www.dexterprint.com/online-stores/Track-&-Field-c28055584. Orders are anticipated to be ready during the week of April 21st.

Dexter Track & Field - Week 4
Welcome back from Spring Break! Even though there is no school on Monday, we are planning for our normal 3:30p practice at the track...many of our vacationing athletes will be back and we want to get back at it ASAP. We are excited to get started in earnest with three meets in six days starting this Thursday. It's truly "GO TIME"! Go Dreads!
Rosters:
Just a note that we do our best to have as complete of rosters as possible to include in the weekly email. These are tentative in that changes can be made prior to the event. The rule we try to live by is this: when we roster an individual, we are planning for that person to compete in those events. While changes can be made and there are sometimes reasons to switch an athlete to a different event, we rarely pull someone from an event once they are rostered for it. You can have the confidence in the roster from this standpoint. We often add additional events for athletes (i.e. relays) as we approach the meet. We hope this provides some clarity as to why we consistently consider rosters as tentative.
Meet Director/Coaching Update:
We are excited to have Alex Heidtke rejoining the program primarily in a Meet Director role as our primary timer for High School and Middle School Meets. He will also be joining practices once or twice per week to help out as well. Alex served in a coaching capacity at the Middle School and High School level including past experience as the Head Track & Field Coach for Dexter High School. Welcome back, Coach Heidtke!
Athlete and Fan Gear (order by April 6):

We are looking forward to our visit to Chelsea this Thursday as a tune-up for the season! Events are scheduled to start at 4pm and we will have busing to and from the meet (departure time will be shared with athletes at practice). Click here for the tentative roster but know that this is still a work in progress with athletes being added to events and relays being put together at practice this week.
This has become a favorite meet for our athletes but it is a limited entry event so we are not able to take everyone. Attached is a very tentative roster for the event though there may be updates if athlete availability changes - we will be working to fill in blank spaces as we get our athletes back to practice this week. Field events are slated to start at 8:45a, the 2 mile at 9:00a, and all other running events at 10:45a. We will have busing for this and will be confirming our departure time with the team during the week.
Dexter Track & Field - Week 3
What a great first meet! While we missed all those that weren't there, know that you were well represented with a great deal of success. Congrats to the Girls Squad who finished 3rd in the meet and brought home a trophy! With Spring Break upon us, we know there are numerous conflicts happening. Practice plans are reflected below as the training doesn't stop this week but is modified to accommodate the week. There is a ton of new information below! Go Dreads!
Varsity Standard:
This first meet saw 23 athletes qualify for their Varsity Letter! 11 athletes hit a Varsity Qualifying mark while another 12 earned enough points for the team by placing in a scoring position. Qualifying is just the first step but earning it comes from both performance in meets as well as excelling in being great teammates and representatives of Dexter T&F. Congrats to the 23 that have achieved the first step towards the Varsity Award! Check out this link for more information on our Varsity Standards and requirements: https://www.dextertrackandfield.com/participation-varsity
Athlete and Fan Gear (order by April 6):
Dexter Print and Embroidery has opened up a team store for the spring T&F season. The T&F Captains vetted the offerings and made sure these would satisfy the requirement to be "dripped out"! Check out this link for more: https://www.dexterprint.com/online-stores/Track-&-Field-c28055584. Orders are anticipated to be ready during the week of April 21st.
Concessions:
ABCD has organized a SUG for all spring concession needs. The goal is for each athlete to have a family member work at least one shift. When T&F families work, funds are sent directly to the team which help us fund everything we need (pits, sand, nets, throwing implements, track chalk, spikes, wickets, plyo boxes, and on and on to help make us successful)! Thanks for your consideration and know that you can work any sport if you don't want to spend time in concessions during a meet - there are tabs across the top of the SUG for different sports. Thanks in advance! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B044BABAB2BA5FE3-55738746-track#/
Additional SUGs will be coming out soon for meet help (finish line, field event areas, etc).
Footwear:
The end of March spells the end of special discounts for our runners and families! Last Call for shoes!

Dexter Track & Field - Week 2
Week one is in the books and we are loving the energy and effort! We have our first meet this week - an invitational at the Lincoln Athletic Building on Thursday. Let the fun really begin; keep the energy and enthusiasm up!
We are looking forward to welcoming our student-athletes that needed to wrap up winter activities this past week. Monday is the last day to make your first appearance - now is the time! Go Dreads!
Practices this week:
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday - We are tentatively planning to start and end at Al Ritt.
Thursday - Student-Athletes not attending the meet will get a practice in on their own.
Friday - We are planning to start and end at DHS given the colder forecast.
Lincoln Spring Indoor Classic (Thursday):
Thursday is our first meet of the season! We try to reward our athletes that have been attending winter workouts with being rostered at this meet though there are very limited entries with two athletes per individual event and one relay team in those events. We will confirm the departure time for the meet with our athletes at practice early this week. This link should provide a tentative roster for this meet (we continue to update this so you should be able to come back and look at this anytime for the most up-to-date roster - band, orchestra, and spring break trips are wreaking havoc on us at the moment) - if you are rostered and not able to attend, let a coach know right away so we can get your spot filled!
DreadStrong T-shirt:
For all teammates new to the team (All Freshmen should sign up!), your captains are and have been volunteering to earn funds for the program. One of their gifts to our new teammates is a long-sleeve DreadStrong shirt!

We always appreciate the partnership of our local running stores, Fleet Feet and Ann Arbor Running Company. They are extremely supportive of our program in so many ways. Attached is a flyer for both partners and we will be handing out Fleet Feet discount cards at practice (though they do have the barcode in store if you want to get in there before you get a card). Thanks for your support of our local partners!

Coaching update:
We are excited to introduce a new volunteer coach to the team. Garrett González-Powell shares, "I started my track career in Dexter and continued running at Cranbrook in high school and at the University of Michigan in college. Currently I live in downtown Dexter with my wife and my two Shetland sheepdogs. Fun fact, I competed in 3 sports in college: Track, Ping pong, and waterskiing. Looking forward to helping out any way I can." Welcome, Coach Garrett!
Dexter Track & Field - Week 1
Greetings, Athletes & Families!
Welcome to the 2025 Outdoor Track & Field season!! We are so excited to get to work with you and have spent this past week meeting and preparing for the upcoming season. Now it's GO TIME!

Registration for Spring Track:
If you've not done this already, here are a few links to help ensure you are fully prepared and registered for Spring:
-SINGLETS: If you do not have a High School Track & Field singlet yet, need a new one, or need a bigger size, you will want to order one here. If you have a singlet from a previous High School season, you can continue to use it and do not need to purchase one.
-BIG TEAMS: All athletes will need to be registered for T&F through Big Teams. There are steps for both athletes and parents/guardians to complete.
**Here is a guide if you need help with the system**
-ELEYO: Pay-to-play participation fees can be completed here. Payment is not processed until the season officially begins.
First Week Schedule:
Practices before spring break typically start and finish at the High School though we may all end up warming up to the track for practice if the weather is right. Come prepared with indoor and outdoor practice gear!
Practices are scheduled to run weekdays from 3:30 - 5:30p with Saturday mornings continuing for distance & mid-distance as well.
**Monday, March 10th @ 3:30p - We will meet in the Commons for a team meeting - come early if you need to pick up a singlet!
**Tuesday, March 11th - Coaches will be in the Commons after practice for a Q&A for anyone that has questions about Track & Field or the upcoming season.
**Thursday, March 13th - Picture Day! You will need your singlet and black shorts!
Footwear:

Attached is a flyer for both partners and we will be handing out Fleet Feet discount cards at practice (though they do have the barcode in store if you want to get in there before you get a card). Thanks for your support of our local partners!
Dual-sport/Dual-committed Athletes:
While we do expect Track & Field to be the priority, we understand that some student-athletes have additional commitments and we try our best to work with them through planning and coordination. Be sure to bring your schedule and connect with either your event coach or coaches Larson or Lamb to discuss the plan for the season. We invest a lot of time in planning for a successful season and that requires full investment by our student-athletes. If we can plan for the conflict, we can plan for success.
Dexter Track & Field - Preseason Down Week
Greetings, Athletes & Families!

In the meantime, enjoy the week ahead and look out for opportunities that Captains may be putting out there to get together and continue the work! Go Dreads!
Indoor States:
Good luck to our Indoor State Meet qualifiers who are poised to compete this coming weekend!

Attached is a flyer for both partners and we will be handing out Fleet Feet discount cards at practice (though they do have the barcode in store if you want to get in there before you get a card). Thanks for your support of our local partners!
