Cold Weather Doesn't Deter Performances At April Showers Invitational

Dexter Track and Field hosted their annual April Showers Invitational at Al Ritt Stadium on Saturday. While the rain didn’t fall, breezy winds and cold temperatures did make the weather less than ideal for the competitors.

Dexter did have some great performances in spite of the temperatures, leading off in the boys field events, Robert Karageorge won the boys Discus with a throw of 137’ 10”, followed by teammate Jacob Alvarado finishing 6th at 116’ 1”. Kyle Gerharter took 4th in the High Jump, clearing 5’ 10”, and Amarkus Royce tied for 8th at 5’ 4”.  Dexter Pole Vaulters went first and second with Benjamin Sackman taking the top spot at 13’ 6”, and Clark Sheldon was runner up at 13’ 6” as well.

Out on the track for the boys, Elijah Smith finished 8th in the 400m at 52.95, and Brandon Anderson took 4th in the 800m, running a time of 1:59.07. Dexter had two 1600m runners place with Vaughn Meyer taking 6th in the varsity race, clocking 4:32.99, and Coen Hill running in the Freshman 1600m. His time of 4:52.54 was good enough for 2nd place. Finishing off the distance races, Caleb Snyder’s time of 9:52.07 finished him in 7th in the 3200m.

Three relays also finished in the top 8, starting with the 4x800m relay crossing the finish in 3rd with the team of Brandon Anderson, Vaughn Meyer, Julian Linebaugh, and Caleb Snyder breaking the tape with a time of 8:17.54. Anderson, Meyer, Linebaugh and Elijah Smith were the four running 4x400m relay team that took 7th with a time of 3:39.91. And Dexters’ 4x100m relay was 4th with Keaton Murphy-Walstad, Noah Boyce, Braeling Greuling, and Connor Kril running 46.52.

The Lady Dreads started their morning out in the field with two throwers taking places in two events. Lily Burns was 5th in the Shot Put, throwing 32’ 8.25”, and teammate Kera Root was 8th with a toss of 30’ 8”.  The two swapped rankings in the Discus with Root finishing in 3rd with a throw of 95’ 1”, and Burns taking 8th with her throw of 90’ 10”.  Pole Vaulters Debbie McCoy was runner up with a jump of 10’ 0” and Raiden Kipfmiller 5th with a vault of 9’ 6”.

The 1600m distance saw four Dexter runners place. Starting with the 1600m Varsity race, Kate Varitek ran a time of 5:34.41, finishing 7th, and Annabel O’Haver was one spot behind finishing 8th at 5:34.58. The Freshman 1600m had Vivian Hoffman winning the race with the fastest time of the freshman at 5:48.96, and Mae Barbaro 5th at 6:34.67. Another Burns, Chloe Burns was 8th in the 400m with her time of 1:07.49, and Lillian Mitchell was 8th in the 800m, finishing at 2:27.66.  Mitchell, Varitek, O’Haver, and teammate Kodie Snyder were the members of the 4x800m relay team that ran 10:08.58, a time good enough for 3rd.

Next up for Dexter, they will host Saline and Ypsilanti Lincoln at Al Ritt on Tuesday.
